Dutch dredger Batavus sold to the Soviet Union according to the Dutch newspaper Het volksdagblad dated 20 April 1937

An item reported that the Dutch dredger Batavus was sold to the Soviet Union and now at the shipyard of Verschure&Co. at Amsterdam being converted into a profiel and cutter dredger. On short notice was she to be towed to the Baltic. Another newspaper Het Vaderland dated 16 June reported that she some moths ago was sold by her former owner the N.V. v/h den Breejen van den Bout via mediation of the maritime office W.H. Mellema at Amsterdam and that she was converted from a barge-unloading dredger into a cutter dredger. She was towed from Amsterdam to IJmuiden where the Dutch tug Witte Zee of L. Smit&Co. was waiting for her. In the meantime were both ships departed towards Archangelsk. The dimensions of the Batavus were 70 x 17 metres.
